1950, Joseph J Mechetti started a steel
rule die-making company in his basement in Rochester, New York. He
had trained for several years with a company and decided to
try starting his own business. The chosen name was Marmech Dies
derived from his wife's name Mary Mechetti.
In those years, everything was hand done, Graphic Arts, Gaskets,
Boxes, Puzzles, Shoes, and Industrial Parts were all stamped out
using hand made steel rule dies. Joe remained as a one man
operation and gained a reputation for his precision and
innovation. 1965, son John (Gib) started training under Joe
which was the start of his career in the die-making and
eventually the die-cutting fields.
1977, son Gib decided to start his own die-making company. Joe
wanted to remain a one man operation Gib wanted to grow. The
chosen name was Mechmar (with his fathers blessing) He spent 5
years as a die-making shop, in 1982 he acquired his first
die-cutting press. During the 80s and 90s he added 3 more
presses and complimentary machinery. In the 90s a CAD/CAM system
was added which improved precision and quality.
Mechmar now has customers nationally and internationally and is
known for quality and precision.
